Applying for a school place

All applications are coordinated through Nottinghamshire County Council. If you have any queries regarding the application process, please contact the NCC Admissions Team on 0300 500 8080 or our office manager Mrs Caroline Newson on 0115 9262983.

Children born between 1 September 2020 and 31 August 2021 will be starting school for the first time (Reception year) in September 2025.

Applications are accepted from November 2024 to January 2025 for first admissions and transfer from infant to junior/primary education.

If you would like to make an application for a place at our school based on the faith criteria you will need to complete the Our Lady Of Lourdes Supplementary Information Form 2025 2026 and return it by email to the school office together with your child’s birth certificate and certificate of baptism / faith evidence.

Nottinghamshire County Council have sent information out regarding school first admission.

  • Under the Co-ordinated scheme for admissions it is important to be aware that if The Good Shepherd is the school of preference for your child, it is advisable to put us as your first choice on the application.
  • Under the Co-ordinated admission scheme this will not prejudice getting a place at any other school, in the event that our school is oversubscribed.
  • However, should you put another school as a higher priority than ours and you are allocated a place at that school, then that will be the school your child will automatically be offered a place at, irrespective of whether your application to our school was successful or not.

What you need to do next:

It is important that you follow BOTH steps below to avoid delays with your child’s application to join our school.

Step 1:

If you are applying for a place and your child is a baptised Catholic or is a member of another faith, you should download and complete the Supplementary Information Form (SIF) Our Lady Of Lourdes CMAT 2024 25 (forms are also available from the school office but we prefer to be paper free where possible):

You must also provide a copy of your child’s baptism certificate (or other evidence of faith – see SIF for details) and return these documents to the school office before the closing date – again, ideally by email. Without this additional information, we cannot rank your child as a having a faith.

Step 2:

Follow the guidance sent to you by your Local Authority – apply online at www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk or https://www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/information-for-residents/education-and-schools/school-admissions/apply-for-a-school-place/

You will be notified on 16 April 2025 which school your child has been allocated a school place at.

An application can be made for a place for a child at any time outside the admission round and the child will be admitted where there are available places.

An application should be made to Nottingham County Council by completing the Common Application Form https://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/education/school-admissions/changing-school (opens in new tab)and following the instructions on the LA website.

If you are applying for a place on faith grounds, you will also need to complete the Our Lady Of Lourdes Supplementary Information Form (SIF) 2025 2026 and return to the school office, ideally by email, along with the evidence of faith (see SIF for information). Without faith evidence, we cannot rank your child as having a faith.

If there are no places available in the year your are applying for, the child will be added to the waiting list.  Please see the Admission Arrangements 2024 2025 for more details.

You will be advised of the outcome of your application in writing as soon as possible.  Applicants must be informed of the outcome of their application within 15 school days of receipt, but the aim is to notify applicants of the outcome of their application within 10 school days of receipt.  You have the right to appeal to an independent appeal panel if your application is unsuccessful.

If you have any questions about in-year admissions, please contact the school office at office@goodshepherd.notts.sch.uk or 01159 262 983.

You may also wish to discuss in-year applications with the local authority the please contact Nottinghamshire County Council on 0300 500 80 80.

The Good Shepherd Primary Catholic Voluntary Academy maintains the admission waiting list for the academic year in accordance with the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Multi Academy Trust Admission Policy. However, Nottinghamshire County Council manages the waiting list for the school.

Parents whose children have not been offered a place at a school in the normal admissions round will be added to the school’s waiting list unless they have been offered a place at a higher preference school. The waiting list will remain open until the end of the academic application year.  If a parent wishes their child to remain on the waiting list, they must re-apply each academic year.
